Chintu Ka Birthday Movie based on a story of a 6-year-old boy named Chintu trapped in Iraq with the family at the time of Saddam’s downfall. It is in April 2004. The US-led Allied military has been in Iraq for a year now. All Indians have been brought home, the Indian government says. But there are also those who went to Iraq illegally, still waiting to find away. On the day of our story, one such family prepares to celebrate the 6th birthday of its youngest member, Chintu. His kind-hearted Iraqi landowner Mehdi gave him a helping hand.
They have to deal with a lot of issues like they don’t get cake, old cranky ovens don’t work, with decorations, gifts, and other issues. However, the family vows to celebrate his birthday. Wahid, a school friend of Chintu, smuggled drugs, and CDs for American soldiers and jihadist material. He had previously given Chintu some of his CDs of jihadi material, which his parents did not approve. Suddenly a bomb explodes and Mehdi gets scared and runs out of the house in frustration. He requests Chintu’s family to hide him, which they approve and he hides in the storeroom. Later, 2 American soldiers, Loyce and Reid, enter their home to search for the bombings suspects. Lys has the experience, while Reid has recently arrived in Iraq. Chintu’s father Madan performs normal tasks and pacifies the situation. The soldiers are satisfied and when Mehdi yells at the shop due to the rats they are out. The soldier quickly kicks him out and stops them both. The situation suddenly becomes tense. The soldiers request a convoy to take the detainees, but they are informed that the coast is not clear for the convoy. Later Waheed and a girl arrive for the farewell party. It is revealed that Waheed knows Louis and there is an exchange of condemnation. Mehdi takes advantage of this distraction and runs away. Louis follows her, while Reid stays. Later radio contact between the two is lost. After a while, he talks to the soldiers when things calm down. He tells them that he understands that they are not bad people and are just doing their job, but they should give him 10 minutes to celebrate his birthday and he will reunite them in peace. Louis refuses to let Madan become a sacrificial lamb and urges him to tell the truth but Madan still refuses. In the end the two agree to a birthday party and the family prepares for the cake cutting ceremony. Madan gets a call from Mehdi who warns him not to accompany the American soldiers as he will never be able to return, but Madan is unbreakable. Chintu’s family celebrates a very emotional birthday and while Reid ponders his actions deeply. As they are about to leave Reid, he abandons his plan to take Madan with him and take two leave. Apologies to Madan and he quickly forgives her.
